February 1, 2009 Fourth Sunday after Epiphany

Deuteronomy 18:15–20 God will raise up a prophet after Moses.

Psalm 111 A healthy respect of God is the beginning of wisdom.

1 Corinthians 8:1–13 Concerning food offered to idols.

Mark 1:21–28 A man with an unclean spirit is healed in Capernaum.


 

February 8, 2009 Fifth Sunday after Epiphany

Isaiah 40:21-31 Our Creator God never faints or grows weary.

Psalm 147: 1-11, 20c This hymn of praise reveals the specialness of the living God.

I Corinthians 9:16-23 Paul tells the Corinthians that he has voluntarily become "all things to all people" in order to proclaim the Gospel.

Mark 1:29-39 Jesus heals Simon's mother-in-law, and then heals many others who are in great need.


 

February 15, 2009 Sixth Sunday after Epiphany

2 Kings 5:1–14 Namaan, high-ranking commander of the Syrian army, receives healing from his leprosy by dipping seven times in the Jordan River at the direction of prophet Elisha.

Psalm 30 This psalm of thanksgiving celebrates a worshiper having been healed from a life-threatening illness. It calls upon the audience to join in the celebration and listen to the testimony of the one healed.

1 Corinthians 9:24–27 Paul wants the Corinthian believers to give their total effort in living the Christian life, like the athlete who gives a full effort to win a prize that doesn't last.

Mark 1:40–45 A leper begs to be healed and tells the news.


 

February 22, 2009 Transfiguration Sunday

2 Kings 2:1–12 Elijah passes his role as the leading prophet of Israel to his disciple Elisha.

Psalm 50:1–6 God calls the covenant people to assemble for a word on judgment and redemption.

2 Corinthians 4:3–6 The light of knowledge shines in our hearts.

Mark 9:2–9 The transfiguration of Jesus.
