Troop 521 meets at Ashland UMC on Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. in room 119. Youth ages 11 – 17 are welcome. Scouts learn leadership and outdoor skills through Merit Badges and Rank Advancement. Boy Scouts of America is a values-based youth development organization and is designed to guide and prepare youth in:
- Building character according to the Scout Oath and Scout Law
- Training to become responsible citizens
- Developing personal fitness
Scouts learn leadership skills, plan outdoor adventures, organize community service projects and hold fund raisers. Other activities include:
- Camping
- Hiking
- White water rafting
- Adopt-a-Highway
- Irmo Library book sales
- Scouting for Flags: posting US flags in neighborhood yards
- Annual sales of Camp Cards and Popcorn
Experiences with other Scout troops include:
- Camporees – Outdoor weekends
- Summer Camps – Outdoor 7-day experience
