About Us

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”  Matthew 18:20

Adult Sunday School Classes

At Ashland UMC, Sunday School is an important part of learning about God and getting to know others on their faith journey.  Each class is unique in membership, study materials and mission project(s).  Ashland UMC is a mission-focused congregation and classes are encouraged to participate in mission initiatives both within and beyond the church.

Adult classes examine and explore Bible-based literature to guide their spiritual journey and inspire their daily lives.   A number of classes are available and are listed below along with the location, age range, curriculum, missions focus and social functions for each.

New Beginnings     Room 122/Zoom   All ages

We are presently studying “Real Housewives of the Bible”.  Our class has a teacher each week, but we are mostly a discussion group.  Everyone participates.
Our main mission this year is “Backpacks for the Homeless”.  We work with several other churches and a Girl Scout troop to collect & fill used backpacks with toiletries, food & books to give to the homeless to replace plastic bags they currently use. Because of the pandemic we have not had any socials this year.

Salt & Light   Room 129   All ages from senior high to senior adults welcome

Our teaching focuses on an in-depth, verse-by-verse study of books of the Bible that is both exegetical and expositional.  Theological topics are also covered to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of scripture.  Questions and discussion are encouraged. We are a new class and have not determined class missions yet. We fellowship over meals and celebrations.

Searchers     Room 127    Older adults

We are discussion focused, using materials from authors such as Marcus Borg, Adam Hamilton and Brian McLaren.
We support Ashland’s Blessing Box, Family Promise, Sharing God’s Love, Killingsworth and Harvest Hope.
We enjoy shared meals in various settings.
